A Just Plain Great Idea

Uncovering America by HorsebackBill found this story on FOXNews.com, and I found a direct link to their blog: Uncovering America by Horseback.

Bill Inman and his Thoroughbred-Quarter Horse, Blackie, are traveling across America to prove that America is still a good place, despite what you see on the news every day. As their blog says, “To ‘Uncover America’ and document the adventure, horseman Bill Inman is traveling across America on horseback, slowing down the pace to find interesting places, individuals, groups and history that inspire pride or lift the spirit. This adventure will show the American public that we do have something to be proud of, and nothing is impossible as long as you try.”

They left their home in Lebanon, Oregon on June 2, 2007 and hope to end up in Hendersonville, North Carolina by Christmas. I hope you’ll read their blog, and the story where we originally found it at FOXNews.com. I also hope you’ll consider clicking on the “Support” button on the Inmans’ blog, because this is definitely a venture worth supporting.

We’ve spent all morning trying to figure out how we can just pack up our horses and join Bill and Blackie, but it looks like we’ll just have to experience it through their blog. :( Stupid jobs – always keeping you from doing the things you really want to do.

About Mikki

Born and raised in Arizona...lived in the city for 25 years after growing up. Moved to a tiny little town in east Tennessee in 2005 and somehow ended up with 5 dogs, 2 cats, 4 chickens, 3 goats and, of course, 4 horses. Lovin' the country life!

    Hey,
Nice blog! Just have one question. What type of riding do you guys do? I do hunter/jumper. I am still in ponies. Of course, I have horses but I can’t show them. They are either too young or to old. I am getting there though. Here is a tip: Spoil them to death. All of my horses are. They will live a longer time or mine have! Have any other tips just ask. Good luck!!:)

Awww my trainer/friend’s aunt already did this, 5000 miles on her horse.

Thanks Caroline. We only do trail riding at this point. We’re pretty new to all of this still. But I’d like to do barrel racing on Moonshine and Mikki would like to show her fancy show horse Valentine in the gaited categories. But nothing big. Mostly local shows so we don’t embarrass ourselves too much, LOL.

Elise, wow thank for the link! You’re trainer/friend’s aunt is awesome! I would love to be able to do a long ride like that, though I and my horse would need a lot of work beforehand. Hey, at least we can live that fantasy through her though. I hope she does it again. I’m bookmarking her site and we’ll add a link, too. Thanks for the note.

That is so interesting how he is going to do that. I looked at their blog and it looks like a very amazing adventure they are going to take. I wish I was doing something like that. I am all caught up in everything that it is very soothing to read your blog! I just wanted you to know that.

    Hello,

I have been documenting Bill’s adventure since day one, filming the journey.

Hopefully we can make it across and eventually I will produce a documentary of it.

they are really low on funds right now… hard to buy gas and food. But people keep giving to them along the route.

They also have a way to donate on their website. So if you want to buy Blackie some feed, just go to uncoveringamerica.com

thanks for spreading the good news

  6. This sounds really interesting too. We sure do get a lot of bad press. It’s nice to see someone looking to prove the other side.
