Horse Links

Horse LinksThere are a lot of great horse resource and information sites out there! We use the Internet constantly as we search for answers to our horse questions. Below are a few sites we’ve found useful and/or interesting.

Note: these open in a new window

  • Horse rescue organizations: I will continue to add others to this list as I find them – if you know of any, please let me know! If you’re looking for a horse, please start with a rescue organization. It’s true that a good number of these horses are not appropriate for a beginner because of past problems, but many of them are as good an animal as you could possibly hope for. Even if you don’t find your new best friend, please consider supporting one or more of these organizations: KBR Horse Net (not a rescue organization, but good info and links re BLM mustangs and burros)
  • 4 Shoes Life
  • A Girl and Her Horse: A blog that is just like it sounds. Katie is an equestrienne in New Zealand, Red is her chestnut Thoroughbred – they do dressage.
  • A Love for Horses: A blog by artist Joni Solis designed to help horse businesses.
  • Bridlepath: A great blog by a self-confessed “horse fanatic.” Lots of news and information.
  • Cloud 9 Walkers: Okay, we’re a bit biased toward walkers, but who could not like them? They’re gorgeous! This is a site for a farm that breeds, raises and sells them. Gee, I wish we could get another one…
  • Cool Cowgirlz: “Great Stuff for Cowgirlz and Their Horses!” Backpacks, shirts…and treats!

  • Equine Post: a horse information portal
  • Equiniac: An incredibly comprehensive list of horse-related blogs.
  • Fugly Horse of the Day: Snarky commentary on the breeding of poor quality horses, silly training techniques, dangerous/bad behavior around horses, and anything else that annoys me!” We link to this because it’s very entertaining and informative…but we do fear we may be mentioned someday.
  • Gaited Goals: The author is training for the Three Phase Event for gaited horses (www.threephaseevent.org) in Winchester, KY, and started the blog as a journal to follow their training progress. It’s part journal, part tips, part whatever else comes up. It’s focused on gaited horses, specifically TWHs, but many things apply to all horses.
  • Girls Horse Club: a place for girls who love horses. What girl doesn’t, really? I wish they’d had this when I was a girl growing up without a horse.
  • Hoofbeats: A reader blog about horses hosted by the Houston Chronicle
  • Horse Approved: A horse blog dedicated to everyone who loves horses. This is a great informational site, with reviews, classifieds and great tips. Definitely check this one out.

  • Horse City – This is one of our favorite sites, particularly the bulletin boards. You can learn a lot from other horse owners.
  • HorsePages.com

  • International Museum of the Horse: We have not been to visit this place yet, but it’s on our list! It’s like Disneyland for horse lovers.
  • Knitting, Horses and My Family: This is a personal website authored by a horse owner who also knits. She came up with some really great uses for hay twine, including rugs and curry combs. Check it out!
