Thanks for the note and good luck! It's been a while since you posted this (darn forum software doesn't let me see just new posts) so you've probably already made up your mind but I would say you're in a good position to negotiate since they're not experienced boarders and it doesn't sound like you're in high competition area. I'd have a figure in mind and then ask them what they think is reasonable. A lot will depend on what you want them to do. For example, if you just want them to board the horse but not feed or clean up after it, the price should obviously be lower. But being teenagers, they probably would love the opportunity to make a little more by feeding and cleaning up after your horse and they're doing it for their own horses anyway. I bet they're not sure where to begin with price either.

If you're still checking the forum, how did this turn out for you?

I wish I knew the answer for you but a few things I would suggest:

1) wear a helmet (I'm guessing you're already doing this)
2) could the horse be in some kind of pain? I'm told horses buck, not usually to be ornery but rather as a result of something that's uncomfortable to them. If the saddle and saddle page are properly fitted and you're riding the horse properly, perhaps the reason is some kind of discomfort or pain that is otherwise not evident.

Moonshine reared up and dumped me off once and it was a pretty scary experience, not to mention dangerous. Please do research why your horse is doing this for your safety and those around you. Let us know what you find, please.

Anyone else with some advice?

FYI, I was at a feed and tack store recently and on their bulletin board someone was selling a slightly used, new model manure spreader for $995. 10 minutes earlier I saw the same one at Tractor Supply for $1,500. I'm guessing used manure spreaders are rare but it reminded me to keep an eye out on the feed store bulletin boards for deals. I didn't have an extra $995 laying around that time but hopefully I'll find a similar deal when I do.

We're accumulating a good deal of manure now and could really use a manure spreader. Have you seen these? Basically a manure spreader is a cart you pull behind a tractor or four wheeler. As you pull it, the trailer axle turns a pulley that flings the manure out and another than pushes the manure to the back of the trailer to be flung out. I found one for $1800 but I really don't need one full time. I wish someone rented these.

What do you use, if anything?
