It was nice having Labor day off to catch up on chores. Fortunately for us, our hay supplier asked if we were up to getting some hay this morning. Yeah! We were pretty low and really needed it. We ended up spending the day getting about 70 square bales onto our car trailer (16 foot) and hanging out with some horse friends. And here I am at 10 PM, completely worn out, itchy (hay sure is scratchy) and stiff. I think I need to get out and work more, lol.

How was your Labor Day holiday? Do anything with horses?

We didn’t have a holiday weekend here in Australia, but I did have a good weekend taking Mushu on a trail ride with some friends. Sunday was too windy to ride and crazily hot and cold at different times so instead I made a video as part of a horse massage course I am finishing off - hope to get my certification soon! But your post reminds me I need more hay!

Sounds like fun. Let’s see, almost spring there now, right? Is your video going to be for sale?

Just curious, how much does hay cost in Australia, typically?

Hmm, I put in a reply but it didn’t show up!

The video is my assessment - I am taking the course not giving it! I wish! Its taking forever to get through all the homework.

Looking forward to summer now - had enough of cold weather!

Oh, and the cost of hay varies heaps depending where you are and how bad the drought is in your area at the moment - I pay about $16 per bale for lucerne (alfalfa) and thats not too bad, paid $26 per bale once. But its quite varied depending on weather and season.

$16!!! Converted to US dollars that’s still around $12 a bale. Ouch! I know I got lucky on this one but we just paid $1 a bale, roughly $1.30 Australian. Let’s see, if I had to buy 68 bales at $12 each that would be…$816 US for about 2-3 months of hay. That’s for 2 horses, mind you, but geez. Sorry to hear it’s so expensive there.
