Hello,
I am a first time horse owner of an AQHA 4 year old gelding. He is very sweet and gentle, yet I need encouragement and support in handling him. I have ridden some in the past, yet need the confidence in handling my horse.
I would like to talk with other first time horse owners in my Putnam County, Florida area and other areas!

Looking forward to hearing from others who are on the same trail!

I’m in the same boat. My horse was a show horse, so he should be a well-behaved horse, but he’s pretty fiery. What I want to do is have one of my horse friends come over and spend a few hours showing me what and what not to do. I’ve had a couple of people say, “Yeah, I should come on over and do that”…but they don’t follow through. Or maybe I don’t follow through. But in any case, I think a new horse owner’s best bet is to have someone who knows what they’re doing spend some time with you and your horse so you really get a feel for the way things should go. A trainer is probably the best choice, if you can afford that route. Otherwise, make some good horse buddies. Good luck!

How did this work out for you, Seeker? We ended up hiring a local trainer to help us learn more about the right way to work our horses. That and spending more time under saddle helps a lot.
