Should I rename her Mary Jane?

I love the smell of my horse. If you don’t have a horse, that must be a weird thing to hear someone say but it’s true. She smells horsey and I like it. But today for some strange reason as I kissed her long face and breathed in, I detected the scent of something smoky. In fact, it smelled like…marijuana. Why does my horse smell like marijuana? I wish I knew. We don’t smoke it and don’t know anyone around who does. I really don’t think our neighbors do. Are there plants in the wild that smell like burning marijuana cigarettes or should I be on the lookout for hippies in my pasture? This was an isolated incident but worth noting, nonetheless.

About Bill

Long-winded horse newbie, aspiring amateur barrel racer and cowboy mounted shooter. Bill has a "horse problem" and regularly wears a t-shirt that reminds him "I don't need another horse." A favorite quote is from John Wayne: "Courage is being scared but saddling up anyway," which pretty much describes how he feels every time he gets on a horse.

You might want to check & see what’s growing in your pasture!

    “Don’t worry…beeee happy!”

We had magic mushrooms growing in our pasture in England. I used to wonder whether the horses avoided them, or whether they just didn’t make the horses high. We certainly did see people high as a kite in the field from time to time.

That is strange. This is a little off the subject, but I am about to bring my pony Tonka home, and I am worried about hippies in the pasture too. We have bad neighbors and I am worried about them playing pranks on my pony. They do that with the dogs. Any suggestions??

    Hey

She is eating GRASS isn’t she!!!

Seriously though I’ve never quite had your flavour but I do love to bury my head in my horses’ necks and have a real good sniff. Bizzare but they don’t mind, they do it to us. Once had a mare who loved the smell of licorice and would just about climp into your mouth to have some!
